Challenging Times Brings Opportunities
Every day we speak to business people about their business and how they are doing. Most people are candid in conversations about their business and as you would imagine topics like cash flow and watching expenses are of a high priority. We are no different and are trying to work our way through these difficult times as well by making the changes we feel will enhance our business.
Many businesses express the sentiment that they see opportunities but the lack of cash flow or financing precludes taking advantage of these opportunities. Relative to this the businesses that do have these abilities should seriously look at upgrading the trucks in their businesses that need to be replaced. Sounds like a truck salesman doesn?t it? So the question is why now?
The answer is that the incredibly depressed prices on commercial trucks are starting to rise in some segments as the excess inventories are being reduced. Examples: we recently sold a late model used truck to a business who bought the exact same year and model truck a year ago for $8,000 more. We also just sold an older 04 Utility Truck to a business that wants another just like it, the only problem is that truck in the wholesale market has increased by $1500-2000 dollars since we bought the one we sold (purchased 45 days ago).
I work in our service and parts operation, and I see on a weekly basis, businesses pouring lots of dollars into vehicles that should be replaced. When I see these situations believe it or not I council my service customers to replace rather than repair but most are fearful of spending or committing more money during this economic climate. Believe me I too am faced with these same decisions, just in different areas of my business, its not easy. I too am trying to muster the courage to make the difficult investments in my business that I feel can pay good dividends in the future but currently add to the struggle.
If you can relate to what I am saying here I urge you to consider looking at your commercial trucks and decide if some need replacement. The old car guy claim that ?prices have never been lower? might actually be true this time!
